Rapid City is the second largest city in South Dakota, a state I first set foot in yesterday. It is bordered on to the west by the Black Hills with rolling prairie stretching out in every other direction, so it’s not quite flat.
The downtown has statues of 41 US presidents. They don’t have Biden and I don’t think they have Obama, but they have a Trump (not surprising here). Lots of people are strolling around town taking pictures. I suspect most of them have no idea of whether these were good or bad presidents. They’re all there, so there’s a definite mix.

Some people think Richard Nixon (left) resembles Montgomery Burns (right).
You be the judge.

Downtown has lots of nice shops, all of which are closed by 6 on Saturday. Plenty of good restaurants, too. I ate at the the Wine Cellar restaurant. I was looking at the menu outside when the owner came out to describe the specials to me, so I sat down to dinner. Her husband came out to make the wine recommendations. A fine meal all around.

Tonight was dinner at the Firehouse. Good gumbo, even though that’s not really a Plains specialty.
Tomorrow the eight of us ride to Deadwood, SD.
