Day 3: Lots of Wind (at our backs!)

Mt San Jacinto, near Palm Springs

Today was a nearly perfect day. We set off as a group, climbed over the San Gorgonio Pass, and then rode a powerful tailwind downhill through Palm Springs to Indio.

Once we got to Palm Springs I had my first flat tire. I’m glad Chad was able to spot the tiny piece of glass that caused the flat.

A tiny piece of glass no longer in my tire

One of the benefits of burning 9000 calories in a day is the food you get to eat later. For dinner Chad and I hit the casino buffet.

  • Spencer
    • Dinner size salad
    • Dinner rolls (very stale)
    • Ribs
    • Potato wedges
    • Fried rice
    • General Tso’s chicken
    • Prime rib
    • Grilled vegetables
    • German chocolate cake
    • Wine (indeterminate red)
  • Chad
    • Garlic bread
    • Pepperoni pizza
    • Ribs
    • Potato wedges
    • Mashed potatoes
    • Macaroni and cheese
    • Grilled vegetables
    • Salmon
    • Bacon wrapped chicken breasts
    • Enchilada
    • Spanish rice
    • Black Forest cake

I’m surprised we weren’t thrown out.

Tomorrow we cross the desert to Blythe, without a fine Arab Charger.

  2. Only you could get a Stone’s reference in there Spencer. Hopefully if you or Chad get down, someone in your group can come to your emotional rescue

Are you really burning 9,000 calories in a day? That’s amazing.

    1. According to Garmin it’s 6-9000, plus the 2300 a day I burn just being alive. It’s actually hard to eat that much when I’m not cooking.
