Day 7: Haunted Hamburgers

Mingus Mountain

Today’s ride was a 2040′ climb in 11 miles over Mingus Mountain. Mingus Mountain was named after someone named Mingus, but it isn’t clear exactly whom (apparently there was no shortage of local Minguses (or is it Mingusi?)). It was a tough climb followed by a screaming downhill.

Halfway down we made the traditional stop in Jerome at The Haunted Hamburger, which hangs on to the side of the mountain, as does most of Jerome. The burgers are good and the milkshakes are great.

The Jerome Flamingos

Tomorrow we pass through beautiful Sedona before climbing the very winding road to Flagstaff, where we’ll take our first day off.

  1. Jerome is a funny little town. Gotta love the view from the restaurant. That is a steep road coming down from there. Tomorrow’s ride through Sedona should provide some beautiful photo ops.

  3. I just remembered you started your pedaling adventure. Thanks for sharing pictures and stories! I can’t figure out what happened to bike tires over the last 30 years! I am sending wishes for gentler road wear!! Love the flamingos, particularly the strangled one 🤣. Enjoy your day off.

Yay! Glad to see you got to have a fun “screaming descent.” Those are the best!
