Today was a long fast downhill from Grants to Albuquerque, New Mexico. 79 miles at 20 mph for the first 2/3. Then some excellent fish tacos at a little place in Albuquerque. Dinner at Applebee’s was just a shade above last night’s feast at Denny’s.
Chad was unable to ride today. To be more correct, his bike was unrideable because the padded seat started coming apart. He took the day off and went to a huge bike shop in Albuquerque with our chief mechanic, Peyton.

Chad’s the one with his eyes closed. Not my photo!
Today is, as everyone knows, my birthday (also Reggie Jackson’s and Tina Fey’s). Because of the trip the parade had to be moved to New Mexico. Here’s the press photo.

The last time I saw the Rio Grande was February about 5 years ago. The snows hadn’t started melting and the river was barely a creek. It’s much more muddy and Grande now.
Tomorrow is a lot of gradual climbing to Santa Fe where we’ll have another rest day. It’s forecast to rain all day. Yahoo!
