Today was a beautiful short 67 mile day through rolling hills and cornfields in Kansas. The weather was perfect and the ride was picturesque and downright serene. The food highlight was a visit to the Somerset Cafe, which makes the pie named “Best Pie in America” by Good Morning America in 2008.

(Thanks to commenter Jim Lyle for that bit)
The pie was indeed delicious. Chad and I shared pieces of coconut cream (the specialty), chocolate caramel, and key lime pie. We also tasted the strawberry rhubarb. All were good, but of course the chocolate was my favorite.

Despite the ride being picturesque I didn’t take many pictures. It was just very pretty.
Dinner was at Applebee’s for the group. Having already eaten our life’s quota of Applebee’s meals, Peter, Barbara, Chad, and I went to a local French restaurant, Chez Yasu. It’s run by a practicing defense lawyer whose office is next door in the same building. It was OK. We’re a long way from France. The milkshake at Steak’N’Shake was better. Their milkshakes were a favorite of my father.
Today marks the halfway point of the trip. Tomorrow we cross the Missouri at Atchison on our way to St Joseph, Missouri.
