Day 30: The Big Muddy

Today , in order, we passed the 2000 mile mark, crossed the Mississippi, and entered Illinois. It’s hard to believe we were in Los Angeles only 4 weeks ago and now we’re in Quincy, Illinois. We started a little late today because it is Sunday and had our SAG in Knox City, Missouri. Kind of a quiet town, Knox City, especially on a Sunday morning. Then it was more rolling hills before we descended to the floodplain and crossed the Mississippi. There’s a beautiful new bridge carrying westbound traffic, and the old bridge for people going east. Since there is no shoulder we had to occupy all of a lane to avoid being smushed. Fortunately there wasn’t much traffic on this Sunday and the drivers were polite.

We had a quick lunch by the river and then rode through Quincy to our hotel. There’s lots of late 1800s river town architecture here.

And even a bigfoot sighting all the way out here. He must be stalking us.

After dinner at the hotel we were treated to a good thunderstorm with hail and everything. As long as it’s tonight and not during tomorrow’s 106 mile ride to Springfield!

  2. Great architecture, again! I’ll bet the handymen and women stay busy in this town unless those homes are completely renovated inside.
Sasquatch has a baby dinosaur on a lead and a pool noodle. Unique.
Keep cycling, you are uncovering a treasure trove of Americana.
