Day 38: Misty Mountain Hop

Wooded farmland in North Central Ohio

The weather today was forecast to be overcast with no real rain, in sharp contrast to yesterday. (Those of you paying close attention may be wondering what I’m talking about with rain yesterday. I apparently was so sleepy when I wrote yesterday’s blog that I deleted the part about the hours of heavy rain. Yesterday’s post has been corrected. Now you know what Chad’s function is in the blog: he’s the day-too-late editor.) In fact, this morning was cool, with temperatures that didn’t get above 50o until after 1:00. There was a steady misty drizzle as we rolled over the hills. We also had a stiff North wind, which was frequently a headwind as we stairstepped our way Northeast. It was unpleasant, but not nearly so bad as the hypothermia inducing cold rain we suffered in New Mexico. By afternoon it stopped raining and warmed up into the mid 50s. The clouds are finally clearing this evening. Tomorrow we may have more of the morning mist but we hope for much better winds and no rain until we’re safely in our hotel in Niles, Ohio.

Today was our second consecutive century at 102 miles. We rode through farmland and wooded countryside with several small creeks and rivers.

A small creek or river, maybe Honey Creek

We rode through downtown Delaware, Ohio, which is now a remote suburb of Columbus. Tonight we’re in Wooster, Ohio. It has a nicely kept downtown, in which everything is closed on Mondays.

Wayne County Courthouse
Court of Common Pleas

Dinner was catered in the hotel. The less said the better: it was a meal. Now everybody is ready for bed.
