Day 39: Ohio is Very Green

The Miller Creek MetroParks Bikeway

When Stacy first saw Ohio she described it as “painfully green.” Our ride today took us through plenty of green, including the long bike path west of Youngstown shown above. It was 94 miles in cool weather with a strong crosswind which became a tailwind at the end. The skies were lowering all day and finally started raining during our last hour.

Part of the green is the endless manicured lawns. Ohioans put an awful lot of time and effort into their grass.

That’s a lot of lawn to mow
Cycling brings one much closer to the locals

Chad liked this remarkably specific road work sign.

Remarkably specific, isn’t it?

We also had a flyover of sorts by a pair of Air Force Reserve planes.

Tomorrow it’s another state as we ride 90 miles to Erie, Pennsylvania. Then we get our final rest day before the push to Boston.

  1. ‘Just caught up on reading your last few days of riding. How nice for you to have a visit with your sister & friends.
Yes, that’s a very specific sign. Hope Mt. Pleasant Road will reopen as stated…November 1. 🙃
While you’re cycling, we’re cruising Alaska. Here’s to your final push toward Boston being smooth riding!

    1. I suspect the sign is that way so no one notices when they’re late. If they said “Reopening November 1” people would complain when the road was still closed 11/2. this way very few will know the difference.

  2. I am thinking that perhaps there is not all that much work done on the lawns by the land owners. You know those dairy cows make excellent lawnmowers. Or lawn mooers as some people call them. So glad you are having such a great experience and am loving taking this trip with you guys from the comfort of my recliner!!

    1. I think tractors are doing the job, at a tremendous cost to the environment.

Thirty-five years ago we stayed at a brand new Comfort Inn in Erie. As I recall, the country was beautiful farmland. I’ve certainly enjoyed following your and Chad’s adventures.
