Today was a rest day, so following Mick Jagger’s advice we went for another bike ride, this one a lovely 25 mile cruise through Presque Isle State Park. We saw Misery Bay, so named because of the suffering of the sailors stuck there during the winter of the War of 1812. There are several warships sunk there, some on purpose for long term storage.

I’ve commented before on the low threshold for some of the historical marker signs. The bar seems to be getting lower.

Many of the American riders have the same rain jacket, the Showers Pass Elite. They’re different years, so they all have different zipper configurations depending on the model year. Mine is the oldest, and I suspect this is its last hurrah. Today I found that the seam tape has simply disintegrated in spots, so I did some duck tape repairing.

Tomorrow we start the last stretch with a 93 mile ride along the lake to Buffalo, New York. Light rain is forecast for the next few days, but that’s better than the tornados and hail they’re having back in Oklahoma and Kansas.
