Day 1: Leavenworth, Washington

Today started with a pickup in the hotels followed by a long shuttle ride to Coles Corner, Washington, best described as a place on the map. After getting everyone comfortable on his bike we rode north toward Lake Wenatchee Lake before heading east and south over a hill and down into the quaint Bavarian themed town of Leavenworth. Apparently the town fathers 60 years ago decided to create this quaint theme in order to save the town. It worked!

The Wenatchee River

After lunch we went for an out-and-back up Icicle Creek, in an area referred to as “The Yosemite of Washington”. I’m unconvinced.

We returned to the Bavarian Lodge in Leavenworth, had excellent pizzas and beer at the Blewett Brewing Company, and now it’s time for bed. Tomorrow it’s a cruise along the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers to Chelan.
