Day 2: Into the Desert

Lake Entiat, part of the Columbia River above the Rocky Ridge Dam

Today we had a beautiful ride through apple growing country and then along the Columbia River and wine country to Lake Chelan. The weather is hot (90 degrees) and dry, and promises to be hotter tomorrow.

Lots of apples, with mostly drip irrigation

We travelled along the Wenatchee River and then turned north, following the Columbia River past the Rocky Ridge Dam. It has a nice little Visitors’ Center and a fish ladder which doesn’t have many salmon this time of year.

I’ve never before been one to take pictures of my bike leaning against stuff, but here goes:

My bike leaning against a big dam turbine.

Then it was over a hill and down to Chelan, on 55 mile long Lake Chelan. A good dinner accompanied by a very nice Nefarious Grenache-Syrah-Mouvedre.

Sunset on Lake Chelan

Of course, the end of ride milkshake is always a highlight, even though the selfie is a little goofy.
