Day 3: Last of the Easy Days

An always welcome sight (the sign, not the beer bottle)

Today was the last of our “short” days, a 61 mile cruise on lonely roads through Washington, from Chelan to Omak. We followed the Columbia to another dam before heading up the Okanogan River. It was hot again, into the high 90s.

Another darn dam

The dams provide power sold throughout the west, as well as providing flood control.

Now just a relic because of the dams (and other improvements)

There are still acres of apples. The apples are packed into the large crates on the left, each of which holds 2 tons of apples. That’s 4000 one pound apples in each one! The apples must be pretty sturdy for the ones on the bottom to bear the weight of 9 layers of apples on top. We also saw cherries, wheat, a little bit of marijuana, and a whole lot of empty space. Lunch in a park allowed for a little bit of child’s play.

The day was capped of with a Blizzard followed by dinner. Eat dessert first!

Tomorrow it’s an early start for a 100 mile ride to Colville, which was the starting point of last year’s ride into British Columbia.
