Day 6: Rest Day in Sandpoint

Today was an off day in Sandpoint, a nice little town on Pend Oreille Lake. With rain in the forecast I spent the day truly resting. My hotel room is right above an intersection, and it took me until mid-morning to realize that the intermittent beeping I could hear was not an alarm but simply the walk sign on the crosswalk right below me.

Sandpoint has lots of little restaurants and brewpubs, typical of a ski town (Schweitzer Mountain is right across the lake). They’re also very proud of the lake front.

The lakefront. A little odd, since I sense a strong anti-immigrant sentiment

I had dinner at a small steakhouse owned by three generations of locals. It’s not hard to discern their politics.

Heaven forbid we have fluoride in the water! Fortunately I’m already immune to measles.

Tomorrow we head out at 7 to Libby, Montana, passing Kootenai Falls on the way.
