Today was the grand finale of our trip, with the breathtaking ride across the continental divide on the Going to the Sun Road. The world interfered with our plans, as heavy rains over the past few days caused rockslides and flooding. The road is closed and the Many Glaciers Lodge has been evacuated. We took a short ride through horrible crowds about 10 miles up the road to MacDonald Falls. When I visited in 2019, before my blogging days, it was a scenic mountain creek. Today it is a raging torrent
After that we climbed in the shuttle and rode to East Glacier, where we’re waiting for the evening train overnight to Seattle. Chad rode this train a few years, ago, but because the train was 17 hours behind schedule he wound up on a bus from Spokane to Portland. As I write this the train is only about an hour and a half late. We’ll see: it isn’t here yet.
It’s been a quiet day sitting in the beautiful hotel lobby watching soccer. Once the train arrives it is a 17 hour ride to Seattle, a long wait for an airplane (I hope), and then home.
