Day 2: A Great Start

Chad and Dad doing the wheel dip

Today was a great first day, an 87 mile ride to Moreno Valley, California. The temperature was mostly in the 60s, the wind was behind us, and the Sunday traffic was not so bad. After the wheel dip in the Pacific at Manhattan Beach we headed east. It’s easy to forget how much industry Los Angeles has other than entertainment. We saw lots, from space and aviation companies to refineries to factories. Then we climbed into the orange groves, their trees loaded with fruit. Lastly the snow capped San Bernadino mountains came into view.

A great ride followed by a delicious lasagna. Tomorrow it’s on to Indio.

I don’t know all the names yet. Sorry.

  1. Wow great start!! Are you and the whole crew camping every night? Do your guides move your stuff or do you carry everything on your back? This fascinating

    1. If Chad were doing this by himself he would be bikepacking, but I’m much happier staying in hotels with plumbing. The crew carries our gear, sets up SAG (Snacks And Gear) stops, and arranges catered meals in most of the hotels. I just can’t see riding in the rain only to pitch a tent in the rain, eat in the rain, and sleep hoping you stay dry in the rain.
We don’t go anywhere near Phoenix or Michigan, so we won’t be dropping in for a visit. Darn.

Looks like a great group. Pretty neat a father and son get to do this ride.
Tell my good friend, Gene Geeza, wishing him the best ride of his life and saying prayers for all of you to have a safe ride.
