Day 5: Perspective

One point perspective

Riding across the desert puts things in perspective. On US Highway 60 in Arizona it’s one-point perspective. Today was the longest ride of the whole trip, 115 miles from Blythe, CA to Wickenburg, AZ. It was hard, but we had another good tailwind and a high temperature in the 80s, which is cool for the desert.

The first part of the ride included crossing the Colorado river into Arizona and riding the 10. This meant more flats, of course.

Lisa and Lee are on the tour from Portland, Maine. They coordinate their outfits but insist that’s all.

Vincenzo is here from Italy via London. He can be with us only as far as Albuquerque.

You can tell he’s not talking because his hands are at his sides

Tomorrow is the hardest climb of the trip as we go to Prescott, AZ.

Keep those comments coming!

  1. How nice that you had a tailwind & moderate temperature for your longest ride. After the strenuous climb tomorrow, Prescott should have pleasant weather. We’re enjoying the blog.

    1. Prescott is a nice little town. Several years ago it was 114 when they went through the desert, so this year was much better.

    2. Glad you were blessed with nice temperatures. Prescott is one of our favorite Arizona towns. We stay downtown at the Hotel St. Michael. We look across the street to the Courthouse Plaza & all its activities.

I don’t like going through the desert, even in a car. I do love meeting your fellow bicyclists, though.

Super ambitious, great bucket list check-off. Those highways look really rough in the hot desert, along with the rumble strips. However, if you were on a part of Route 66 in New Mexico, traveling at 45 mph, the rumble strips on the road sound like “America the Beautiful” or another one is also on a part of Route 66 near Lancaster, California, which sounds like the “William Tell Overture” at 55 mph. Quite a bit faster than your two-wheels can sing. But I’m looking forward to your blog each day and the trials and tribulations that you encounter. Enjoy your meals!!

    1. Thanks. Rumble strips are never good on a bike

Utterly insane! Stop now while you have the chance! Where do we send cold drinks, salves and compresses? Did you make a will?

Seriously, everyone’s rooting for you, love the blog, love you both, well done (so far).

  5. How fast can you change a tire? How long does it take to do a back tire? Do you patch, or change tubes?
